CEN/TC 138/SC 5 - EN ISO 22102 "Polyethylene (PE) materials for piping systems - Determination of the resistance to point loads - Test method"

Scope

This International Standard specifies a method to determine the resistance to point loads of polyethylene (PE) pipes. The test is applicable to SDR 11 pipes with a diameter of 110 mm.

NOTE This test method could be adapted for alternative diameters and SDRs, however until now there is only limited experience with SDRs other than 11 and diameters other than 110 mm.

Purpose

This test on polyethylene pipe fulfils the need required by the gas supply industry for demonstrating resistance to external point loads than can occur in service due to rock impingement. The test specifies the use of detergents to accelerate the time to failure of pipe manufactured from materials with enhanced resistance to slow crack growth to give a result in a reasonable time.
