These terms should be used in the rotorcrafts design documents, textbooks for rotorcraft structure, flight dynamics and aerodynamics, and for development of national standards Purpose
Currently there are no international standards on rotorcraft-related terms, similar to fixed wing aircraft standards.
As a result, there are many synonyms, used for the same element of construction or for some phenomena, related to helicopter operations. And vice versa, there are some terms which are explained in the different ways.
In order to provide common understanding for all documents in rotorcraft-related areas (design documentation, flight and operational manuals, airworthiness regulations, textbooks etc) it's necessary to have standard similar (but not limited) to ISO 1151 Part 6: Aircraft geometry, however the standard itself has to be an “independent” one, covering all spheres of rotorcraft terms and definitions.
Consider the following: Is there a verified market need for the proposal? What problem does this standard solve? What value will the document bring to end-users? See Annex C of the ISO/IEC Directives part 1 for more information. See the following guidance on justification statements on ISO Connect: https://connect.iso.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=27590861
