CEN/TC 350 N 958 Sustainability of construction works - Environmental product declarations - Horizontal rules for business-to-consumer communication

Scope

This European standard provides horizontal rules for business-to-consumer communication including benchmarking systems that aim to inform consumers about the environmental performance of construction products, assembled systems and building elements.

This document is aimed at organizations providing business-to-consumer communication and benchmarking systems and provides guidance on how to develop business-to-consumer communication and common rules for benchmarking methodologies using EPD according to EN 15804 and following the EN 15942 communication format.

Business-to-consumer communication and benchmarking methodology described in this document is based on a functional unit and cradle-to-grave assessments.

Purpose

Following:

the amendment to the Mandate M/350 to CEN

the response from CEN/TC 350 (CEN/TC350 N786)

the publication of EN 15804:2012+A2:2019

the initiative managed by the European Commission to development PEF methodology

CEN/TC 350 suggest the development of the standard “ Sustainability of construction works — Environmental product declarations — Horizontal rules for business-to-consumer communication” to provide easy to understand information to consumers to make informed comparisons on the environmental impacts of building elements or construction products based on EN 15804 EPD information.
