Scope

The standard will be developed in light of currently manufactured products and primarily covers measurement of mechanical properties, and design value assignments for the product and data analysis. The methods specified in the standard will be applicable to determine the structural properties of structural size test specimens and material properties of small size test specimens.

The tests for structural properties using structural size specimens include bending, compression, interfacial shearing, and embedment, etc. The tests for material properties using small size specimens include: tension, compression, shearing, etc.

Purpose

Engineered bamboo composite (EBC) is being produced in some countries and these products are being exported from one country to another. There is a need to establish consistency in qualification and quality control of EBC for structural applications, regardless of country of manufacture or country of end use.

This purpose of the standard is intended to provide manufacturers, regulatory agencies, and end-users with a means to evaluate the structural properties and material properties of engineered bamboo composite products intended for structural applications under dry use conditions.
