Standards Development
This Technical Reports describes quality designations and indications for algae and directly derived products from algae production required for or by chemicals and biofuels producers and industry. It does not apply to Food and Feed sectors. Note: This TRs does not provide instructions on existing handling of technical requirements in existing legislations.
CEN was requested by EC to draft European standardization deliverables in support of the implementation of Article 3 of Directive2009/28/EC for algae and algae-based products or intermediates. CEN/BT/WG 2018 Algae was established for the execution of this mandate M/547. In its final report (see BT N 10604 and BT C7/2017) BT/WG 218 advised on the development of three CEN/TRs listing the specific issues on the use of algae for cosmetic, pharmaceutical and chemical/materials/biofuels applications including a suggestion if these need to be addressed by a future standards development. This new work item proposal is intended to develop the requested TR for chemicals and biofuels application. The purpose of this document is to provide an overview on how quality indicating parameters relevant for chemicals and biofuels applications can be handled and conclude on needs for future standards development.
