It applies to bunk beds with a height to the upper surface of the top bed base of 800 mm or more above the floor and to high beds with a height to the upper surface of the bed base of 800 mm or more above the floor.
Safety requirements for other products included in a bunk bed/high bed, for example a table or storage furniture, are not included in this standard.
This part of ISO 9098 does not apply to bunk beds and high beds used for special purposes, including but not limited to prison, the military and fire brigades.
Bunk beds including high beds are widely used in those circumstances without sufficient living space such as schools, dormitories, and other residences, etc. Therefore, these products are highly risky for both children and adults for domestic and non-domestic use in case the ladder, safety barrier or such protecting parts work ineffectively.
This standard determines the specific requirements for the safety and necessary mechanical properties of bunk beds and high beds.
This standard gives manufacturers a guidance to modify their products and will reduce the using risks for the end-users.
