Scope

This document specifies a spectrophotometric method for determining the chlorophyll-a content as a measure of the amount of phytoplankton in surface water. Assuming a maximum sample volume of 2 l, chlorophyll-a content of 5 µg/l or more can be determined.

Purpose

In 2018 NEN offered to translate their own national standard NEN 6520 Spectrophotometric determination of the chlorophyll-a content into English which was kindly accepted by CEN/TC 230/WG 2 (Recommendation 365/Brussels 1). Attached is the English version of NEN 6520. This document may form the basis for developing a CEN standard within CEN/TC230. Below some additional background information. We ask WG 2 to discuss this topic at the upcoming meeting in Belgrade on 23 May 2019.
