Scope

This Technical Specification specifies methods for sampling bulk materials and identification of asbestos in construction products. This Technical Specification specifies appropriate sample preparation procedures and describes the procedure for identification of asbestos by polarized light microscopy and dispersion staining.

Purpose

Under CEN/2017-12, the 4th phase of the CEN/TC 351 work under M/366, there are several items for the work programme of CEN/TC 351/WG 5 Content and eluate analysis. This proposal refers to "Draft a TS to cover asbestos in the methods for analysis and content of inorganic substances" (i.e. part of item 2017-12.15).

WG 5 recommends to prepare a TS based on ISO 22262-1 Air quality — Bulk materials — Part 1: Sampling and qualitative determination of asbestos in commercial bulk materials.
