ISO/TC 61/SC 2 N 1691, ISO/NP 22183 Plastics - Validation of force-time curve of tensile testing at high speed

Scope

This new work item specifies procedures for validation of force-time curve of tensile test at high speed. This new work item specifies methods for measuring the normal mode oscillation of testing machines. Normal mode oscillations of the testing machine measured under this new work item are used for Validation.

The scores classified by the Validation stipulated in this standard are effective for selecting data which is to be used for simulation and material comparison by high-speed tensile characteristics.

Purpose

This new work item is proposed in response to a request to define the evaluation procedures which will be used to guide decisions as to whether data from high-speed tensile tests will be adopted or not through validation of the impact of superposing of the testing machine’s (high-speed tensile testing machine) normal mode on the force-time curve.

The validations are made using several typical natural oscillation frequencies and the force-time curve. The scores are classified according to the combined validation results from those multiple natural oscillation frequencies. The scores determined by this classification are effective on occasions like those detailed below.

When performing tensile tests at high-speeds, the superposed oscillations from the testing machine normal mode may differ, even when using the same test specimen and/or same test speed, so making comparisons of the tensile characteristics difficult. Using data with the same score makes material comparisons easier than before.

The high-speed tensile characteristics to be used in the simulation are chosen by each individual data user with their own judgment criteria, so making comparisons of the results of each user’s simulation difficult. Selecting data with the same score makes discussions about comparisons of simulation results easier than before.

The required data score differs according to the purpose for which the test results are used. Stipulating the score required for the purpose makes it easier for interested parties to be clear on the decision of choosing test result.
