Scope

This document provides guidance to manufacturers to write instructions and specifications for installation, operation and maintenance of lighting columns as defined in EN 40. The document covers lighting columns including their spigots and foundations.

Main aspects covered are

 Assembly

 Installation

 Operation

 Inspection

 Maintenance

 Dismantling and/or recycling

Purpose

Installation and maintenance of lighting columns has been identified in the CEN/TC 50 Business plan as one of its important objectives.

Problems identified are e.g. the following:

 Reduced real life performance resulting from inadequate installation and maintenance

 Unsafe operation of lighting columns due to inadequate instructions

 Inconsistent communication of design information required for foundation design/installation.

This document is intended to provide directions and assistance for owners and parties responsible for manufacturing, distributing or importing into the EU, lighting columns according to EN 40 and is also applicable to contractors in charge of installing and/or maintaining lighting columns. The document should support manufacturer and user confidence that lighting columns will perform as intended in actual installations during their expected lifetime.
