The specifications for fuels in this document can also be applied to fuels used in stationary diesel engines of the same or similar type as those used for marine purposes.
This document includes, in particular, feedbacks and requirements related on the use and the quality of marine fuels with sulphur content of 0,50 %(m/m) max.
ISO/TC28/SC4/WG6 has developed ISO/PAS 23263 in response to the IMO request to consider 0,50% S max marine fuels in the frame of marine fuel standards. As these fuels were not yet on the market, WG6 could not within the timeframe revise ISO 8217:2017 but instead developed ISO/PAS 23263 providing considerations for fuel suppliers and users regarding marine fuel quality in view of the implementation of maximum 0,50% S in 2020 and agreed to initiate the revision of ISO 8217:2017 after 1 January 2020 taking into account information from the market on quality and use of 0,50% S max.
