Standards Development
This document specifies requirements and test methods common to all non-hinged hand instruments including materials, hardness, surface finish and resistance to reprocessing .
Non-hinged hand instruments share many common characteristics including material properties and requirements for reprocessing. Despite the many common features among different categories of instruments, there is currently much variation among in the published requirements and test methods among the standards under SC4 WG8. If a consensus can be reached on a horizontal standard that addresses these common characteristics it should provide a normative reference that will help reduce variation and lead to a more uniform set of standards for non-hinged and instruments.
