CEN/TC 350 N 946 Sustainability in buildings and civil engineering works - Use of Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for construction products in Building Information Modelling (BIM)

Scope

This document provides the principles and requirements to enable environmental and technical data provided in Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for construction products and services, construction elements and integrated technical systems to be used in building information modelling (BIM) to assist life cycle assessment (LCA) at construction works level.

This includes both mandatory and voluntary data from different types of EPD, such as generic, specific, average and representative, and other relevant information necessary for use of EPD at the construction works level within a BIM environment.

This document gives requirements on producing and structuring EPD information as part of a standard product data set, to make EPD data machine readable, and enable their integration into information-driven design, construction and operational processes. This document will also be appropriate to structure generic datasets based on LCA for use within a BIM environment, as this data is required in the absence of suitable EPD data to enable LCA at construction works level.

The assessment of environmental impacts at the construction works level is not covered by this document.

Purpose

In order to maintain the applicability of EN 15804+A2 in BIM applications, CEN TC 350 WG3 would like to participate in the work of ISO TC 59 SC17 WG3 on Enabling use of Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) at construction works level using building information modelling (BIM).
