ISO/TC106/SC1 N801 - ISO/NP TS 4640 Ed. 1 "Dentistry -- Tensile bond strength test methods to tooth structure"

Scope

This Technical Specification gives guidance on substrate selection, storage, and handling as well as essential characteristics of different test methods for tensile testing of the adhesive bond between restorative dental materials and tooth structure, i.e. enamel and dentine. It includes several types of tensile bond strength measurement test. Some specific test methods for tensile bond strength measurements are given for information in Annex A.

This Technical Specification does not include requirements for adhesive materials and their performance.

Purpose

The ISO/TS 11405(Ed.3)2015-02-01, Dentistry — Testing of adhesion to tooth structure prescribes several types of the test methods to evaluate adhesive ability such as bond strength test, gap measurement test, microleakage test and clinical usage test.

In the SR of the ISO/TS 11405 in 2018, it was decided to revise the ISO/TS to update the contents. At the meeting of ISO/TC 106/SC 1/WG 11 in 2019, the consensus was made to eliminate outmoded or inadequate test methods and propose to establish a new TS instead of revising the TS 11405.

This recommendation was approved at SC 1 then at TC 106 plenary meeting. Therefore, only the tensile bond strength test methods are to be retained in the new TS. Note that ISO/TS 11405(Ed.3) is withdrawn.
