ISO/TC256 N562 - ISO/NP 788 "Ultramarine pigments"

Scope

This International Standard specifies the requirements and corresponding test methods for artificial ultramarine pigments, suitable for uses in plastics, paints and etc.

Purpose

In recent years, ultramarine products have been widely used in the international market, such as the coloring of plastics, detergents, paints, inks, art paints and other products. In 2018, Chinese national standard GB/T35962-2018 "Ultramarine" was prepared, which was implemented on September 1, 2018. Compared with ISO788:1974 "Ultramarine pigments for paints", in this standard, the contents of free sulphur, matter soluble in hot water and residue on sieve were limited more strictly; the technical requirements of the product application performances(resistance to light , resistance to bleeding) and the testing methods were added; and the limit requirement of soluble elements and the test methods were increased. Thus the standard improves the technical requirements of the quality of the ultramarine pigments products, promotes the high-quality development of Chinese ultramarine pigments industry, as well as promote the development of export trade of the products. At present, most quality technical requirements of the ultramarine products throughout the world have been far ahead of the requirements specified in the international standard ISO788:1974"Ultramarine pigments for paints". Shandong institute for product quality inspection and Lapis Lazuli Pigments Co., Ltd from China propose to revise the international standard. The main contents of the revision Include the following aspects: 1) Change the title of the standard from "Ultramarine pigments for paints" to "Ultramarine pigments" due to the wide application of ultramarine products; 2) Change the test method of free sulfur to iodometric method, which has been adopted by Chinese national standard GB/T 35962-2018 "Ultramarine"; 3) The requirements for free sulphur, water soluble matter and sieve residue are stricter; 4) The limitation of the contents of elements and the test methods are added.5) The requirements and test methods for resistance to light and resistance to bleeding are added. The revision of this ISO standard will help to improve the production process level of ultramarine pigments, improves the product quality of ultramarine pigments, promotes the healthy and sustainable development of ultramarine pigments, and ensure that the application of ultramarine products does not affect human health and the ecological environment.
