N 1591 – ISO/TC 23/SC 6 – ISO/NWIP 4444 EQUIPMENT FOR CROP PROTECTION AND THE APPLICATION OF FERTILIZER

Scope

An International standard which define how the relevant parameters what influence the spray drift during the operation of field-crop sprayer and sprayer for bush & tree crops are measured and recorded. The focus will be put on the following parameters: 1) spray pressure, 2) sprayer forward speed, 3) spray boom height. Other parameters can be considered. The standard will also cover the reference to ISOBUS harmonized format of the data which will be used for storage and transfer.

Purpose

The new standard will provide the following mayor benefits to the authorities and manufacturers:

1. It will serve to the national authorities as a reference which can be used by legislators during the selection of drift reduction parameters they want to monitor. They can rely on the fact that they will collect spray drift relevant, accurate and enough data to ensure that drift reduction technologies (DRT) are used in a correct manner under the condition they were approved.

2. It will help sprayer manufacturers to specify their products in a way that it will cover majority of the markets (e.g. use common software and sensors, specify the data storage capacities, etc …) which will increase the design commonality.

3. It will help farmers to demonstrate and promote their good spraying practice to the public and other business stakeholders.
