It is the purpose of the current revision of ISO 105-C09 to add sodium percarbonate as alternative to sodium perborate. The proposed additions are necessary to the follow legal requirements in terms of replacing perborate compounds in all commercially available detergents and to protect lab staff from unnecessary health risks (EU Commission: EG No 109/2012).
For more than 15 years all commercially available detergents do not use perborate anymore but percarbonate as bleaching compound. To follow this development and to update the standards to the state of the art it is necessary to add this widely used percarbonate to the standard. ISO/TC 38/SC 1 document N 2778 provides clear evidence that the use of percarbonate gives the same results. The active bleaching compound is the same (active oxygen).
