Scope

This Technical Specification defines a service procedure to be applied to the distribution of ready-towear clothing using a virtual human body.

Purpose

The diversification of distribution channels such as e-commerce activation and the utilization of smart personal media devices have ushered in an era of ubiquitous apparel fashion. As a result, there have already been a number of cases in which virtual human bodies and virtual garments customised to each consumer’s body specifications are used in ready-to-wear clothing distribution.

Ubiquitous apparel shopping allows consumers to choose the product of fit they want through virtual garment simulation and digital fitting of clothing sizing systems by using their virtual human body. This shopping method is emerging as an alternative to new fashion distribution, since it eliminates inefficient procedures of apparel shopping such as the exchange and return due to size problems of ready-towear clothing. Because the commercialization of such new distribution systems in the global apparel fashion market is expected to accelerate in the future, standardization of ready-to-wear clothing distribution services using a virtual human body is becoming more important. In the present situation in which the precedent standards related to the virtual human body and digital fitting of virtual garments are already issued, development of the service standard for subsequent commercialization should be urgently pursued.

This document specifies procedures for the service applied to the distribution of ready-to-wear clothing using a virtual human body and supports the standardization of process, necessary equipment, and required data processing of ready-to-wear clothing distribution services. This document will help service providers, including online and off-line retailers and 3D shopping platform developers set up a service procedure for the distribution of ready-to-wear clothing using a virtual human body.
