Water-absorbent polyacrylate has no safety nor quality standard, while it has various standards to evaluate its performance/characteristics. (e.g. Measurement of airborne respirable polyacrylate superabsorbent materials (ISO 17191:2004), Test methods for characterizing polymer-based absorbent materials (ISO 17190:2001) and other performance-related-standards.)
Quality and safety of water-absorbent polyacrylates are important factor that directly correlates with the quality and safety of diapers and/or pads. Historically, it has been kept as proprietary knowledge of individual manufacturer, so that industry has never discussed standardization before.
Establishment of this standard will help industry to maintain quality of Water-absorbent polyacrylates, hence to help producing good quality of diaper/Pads.
