ISO/TC 22 N 3956, ISO/NP 34504 Road vehicles -- Scenario attributes and categorization

Scope

This work item defines packages concerning the different attributes of a scenario that convey information required to construct a complete test scenario. Those attributes may refer to complementary data sources, such as the related road network, 3D scenes and models. To ensure a certain quality standard, measures for the integrity and integrability of these attributes are defined. Additionally, this work item defines a categorization of the scenarios by providing tags that carry qualitative or quantitative information about the scenarios.

Purpose

In order to e.g. construct a safety case for an automated driving function several formats, models and data sources have to be used in a complementary way. The user needs to know who these standards and formats can be used with each other and how the overall safety case is not endangered through misuse and incompatibilities.

There are multiple sources providing (pre-crash) scenarios that are relevant for defining tests for the assessment of automated driving systems. These scenarios are generally categorized according to one or more characteristics, but the categorization differs from source to source. The purpose of defining a categorization for scenarios is to harmonize the categorization of the different sources, such that is will be easier to use the different sources interchangeably.
