NA BS EN 1991-1-7 National Annex to Eurocode 1. Actions on structures – Accidental actions

Scope

EN 1991-1-7 establishes principles and requirements for the actions on structures related to accidental actions. It describes the basis for the design and verification of structures and gives guidelines for aspects of structural reliability related to accidental actions. EN 1991-1-7 is intended to be used in conjunction with EN 1990 to EN 1999 for the structural design of buildings and civil engineering works.

The National Annex to BS EN 1991-1-7 provides the Nationally Determined Parameters where national choice is allowed.

Purpose

This National Annex is intended to provide best practice guidance on using BS EN 1991-1-7 – Eurocode 1; Actions on structures – accidental actions, as well as to provide values of the Nationally Determined Parameters that have been left to national choice. For information contained in the Annexes within EN 1991-1-7, the National Annex provides guidance on which of those should and should not be used in the UK.

The NA to BS EN 1991-1-7 provides information on forces due to vehicular impact on bridge supports or buildings over or adjacent to roads. In April 2015, the UK speed limits for Heavy Goods Vehicles were increased on certain classes of road and the information in the NA needs to be updated to take this into account. This amendment will add that information.
