Scope

PD 6688-1-7 gives non‑contradictory complementary information for use with BS EN 1991-1-7:2006+A1:2014 and its UK National Annex. This covers the design of bridges to minimise the risk of collapse following vehicular impact, particularly by HGVs.

Purpose

PD 6688-1-7 is in need of updating to take account of the increased speed limits for HGVs that were introduced in 2015. NA BS EN 1991-1-7 is also being updated to provide the same information and the two documents should be consistent with each other.
