Scope

This part of ISO/IEC 11801 establishes a matrix-model for formulating limits for mixed mode parameters within and between two pairs of balanced cabling. This is for the purpose of supporting new, improved balanced cabling channel and link specifications.

Purpose

This Technical Specification covers cabling channel models and assumptions, which support limits for channel and permanent link performance requirements in the ISO/IEC 11801-1 cabling standard.

The basis for the cabling channel performance requirements is IEC standard component cable and connecting hardware specifications. Channel transmission parameters are derived from a matrix model which combines the respective channel components’ transmission parameters.

This technical specification revises ISO/IEC TR 11801-9903. While the underlying matrix theory remains the same, the model is improved for the new ISO/IEC 11801-1 channel classes, including higher frequencies, 2-pairs symmetry, mixed-mode parameters, differential-to-common and common-to-differential unbalanced and coupled signal modes, and higher-order effects with improved statistical methods. The naming of transmission parameters is extended accordingly.
