The requirements for strip-wound flexible hoses with end fittings attached are specified in section two. Section three specifies additional requirements for the end fittings and sockets.
We propose to revise BS 669-1: 1989 to add requirements for 3rd family gases and requirements for micropoint fittings. The proposed new title is Specification for strip-wound metallic flexible hoses, covers, end fittings and sockets for domestic appliances burning 1st, 2nd and 3rd family gases.
The proposed new scope is:
This part of BS 669 specifies type test requirements for strip-wound flexible hoses, end fittings and sockets for use with domestic cookers and appliances at a nominal inlet pressure not exceeding 20 mbar1 for 1st or 2nd family gas and not exceeding 50 mbar for 3rd family gas.
The requirements for strip-wound flexible hoses with end fittings attached are specified in section 2. Section 3 specifies additional requirements for the end fittings and sockets.
NOTE 1. Strip-wound flexible connection assemblies to this specification are not suitable for installations where the ambient air temperature exceeds 70 degrees C, nor where there is the possibility of contact with hot surfaces exceeding 95 degrees C.
NOTE 2. The titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover.
NOTE 3. Drawings which include essential dimensions together with appropriate gauge dimensions for a suitable design of connection which satisfies the flow rate and pressure drop requirements for flexible connections to this standard are included in annex B.
The standard is widely used in a number of countries in addition to the UK and is the current main standard referenced for all domestic cooker connections in the UK in compliance with BS 6172:2010+A1:2017 Specification for installation, servicing and maintenance of domestic gas cooking appliances (2nd and 3rd family gases). Specification.
It is intended to achieve safe connections to the gas supply for domestic cookers.
