The commercial heating industry has a problem with poor water treatment in hydronic heating systems, which will cause a reduced efficiency due to scale deposits building up in the pipework and then this can lead on to premature failure of the plant and components in the system. There is no standard that gives the definitive specification for the equipment and chemicals required to keep a system clean and operating at its most efficient level. BEIS are requiring heating systems to be more efficient in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and allowing scale to build up, reduces the efficiency and a new British Standard will assist in achieving their policy goals.
