The tests consist of the application, to various parts of the unit, of loads, forces and velocities simulating normal functional use, as well as misuse, that might reasonably be expected to occur. With some exceptions, the tests are designed to evaluate properties without regard to materials, design/construction or manufacturing processes. This document specifies requirements on test methods only. It does not specify requirements on storage furniture. These should be specified in a requirements document. If this is not available, suggest loads, cycles and forces can be found in annex B and C depending on the applicability of the furniture. Annex E describes the apparatus used for slam-shut and slam-open tests of extension elements.
This document is a proposal for test methods for strength, durability and stability for storage furniture. It
is based on ISO/DIS 7170:2016 after resolving comments and ISO 7171:2019.
The resolution N5 in doc ISO/TC 136 N564 was taken in Shanghai 2018-09-21. To create a PWI to
merge ISO 7170 and ISO 7171. The project will develop two annexes with loads and cycles for
different applications and an annex for purpose and applicability of test methods. This revision – once
finalized – will withdraw both existing version of ISO 7170 and the future version of ISO 7171.
