Revision of BS 8902, Responsible sourcing sector certification schemes for construction products – Specification

Scope

This standard gives requirements for the management, development, content and operation of sector certification schemes for responsible sourcing and supply of construction products.

NOTE 1 Sector certification schemes can cover single (primary) materials, composite (processed) materials, and/or manufactured items.

NOTE 2 It is the scheme that conforms to this standard and not a company or product

Purpose

BS 8902:2009 is proposed for revision to maintain the standard’s continuing fitness for purpose and market relevance, to benchmark it against developments in good practice, and to tailor it to fit within the current stands landscape.

BS 8902:2009 was not subject to a detailed review in 2014, and, since 2009,

• the general/industry landscape of responsible sourcing has moved on considerably;

• the standards landscape has moved on – ISO 14001 has been significantly updated, and ISO 26000 and ISO 20400 have been introduced;

• the Modern Slavery Act was introduced in the UK in 2015.
