Scope
This proposed new standard describes the acoustic emission (AE) testing method for metallic pressure equipment and the classification and evaluation of the results. It applies to the AE detection and monitoring of active defects of in-process and in-service metallic pressure equipment. It also aims to assist the inspectors assess the integrity of structure and the safety of metallic pressure vessels.
Purpose
Metallic pressure equipment include boilers, vessels, pipelines, gas cylinders, etc. It is widely used in petrochemical, electric power, metallurgy, shipbuilding, aerospace, nuclear energy and other fields. The safety operation of metallic pressure equipment is essential to safeguard the national economy and the daily life of the people. The purpose of this document is to provide test method for the integrity of structure and the safety status of in-process and in-service metallic pressure equipment. It also provide the evaluation criteria of testing results. The establishment of this document can solve the problem that there is no ISO standard for AE testing method of metallic pressure equipment. The main interested parties who might benefit from this document are manufacturers and users of metallic pressure equipment.
