“This clause of Part 1 is replaced with the following.
This document deals with the safety of electrically operated commercial hoods intended to collect and conduct contaminated air, and not intended for household use, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single phase, and 480 V for others hoods. Only single complete units and hoods supplied as separate parts which when assembled form a complete extraction system, incorporating a fan, are within the scope of this document.
The hood can be used above one or more appliance or types of appliances.
The following extraction systems are covered as well:
— back-draft ventilation systems;
— down-draft ventilation systems;
— fume extraction modules.
These appliances are not intended for household and similar purposes. They are used in areas not open to the public, for example in kitchens of restaurants, canteens, hospitals and in commercial enterprises such as bakeries and butcheries.
This document deals with the reasonably foreseeable hazards of intended use presented by appliances and machines, which are encountered by all persons and domestic animals in and around the installation place or workplace.
NOTE Z101 Attention is drawn to the fact that:
— for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements can be necessary;
— in many countries additional requirements including ventilation requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour and similar authorities.
This document does not apply to:
— domestic range hoods (IEC 60335‑2‑31);
— purpose-built hoods, although this document can be used as a guide (a purpose-built hood is either constructed on-site or specially constructed in the factory and is not mass produced);
— appliances not incorporating a fan;
— appliances designed exclusively for industrial purposes;
— appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas);
— hoods designed for use in vehicles or on board of ships or aircraft;
— hoods with special treatment of cooking fumes, e.g. UV-C treatment, plasma-treatment, catalyser, etc.;
— ventilation and air conditioning systems;
— exhaust air systems;
— battery-operated appliances.
With European Amendment A11, EN IEC 60335‑2‑99:2024+A11:2024 is superseded.
This European Amendment A11 supplements or modifies the corresponding clauses of the standards below:
— EN IEC 60335‑1:2023[1] (Part 1)
— EN IEC 60335‑2‑99:2026[2] (Part 2)
For the purpose of this document, the term “appliance” includes the term “machine” where applicable.
This document does not deal with any specific requirements on noise emitted from these appliances the generated noise is not considered to be a relevant hazard. Thus, the emission sound pressure level LpA is considered to be LpA ≤ 70 dB(A).
This document contains requirements for appliances with radio function, remote communication, and remote operation.
For the scope of this document, the term “radio appliance” is used with the same meaning of “radio equipment”.
For the scope of this document, the term “appliance” is used with the same meaning of “equipment”.
Compliance with this Part 2 when used together with the Part 1 provides one means of conformity with the safety objectives as listed in Table ZZB.1 and Table ZZC.1.”
