This part of IEC 60079 provides guidance for equipment for use in explosive atmospheres in environments which can include ambient temperatures below –20 °С or above +60 °С, and additional adverse environmental service conditions, including high humidity, solar radiation and maritime applications.
The purpose of this document is to provide recommendations to be considered for the design, manufacture, selection, installation, inspection and use of Ex Equipment and Ex Components. It is intended that this document be used for such equipment operating both within the environmental range and potentially outside of the environmental range specified on the certificate for the equipment.
For higher temperatures, this document also includes requirements resulting from secondary effects, such as heating or radiation from other equipment, solar radiation, internal heaters, or process fluids (liquids and gases).
Only temperature effects on Ex Equipment and Ex Components due to hot process fluids, are included in the scope of this document, but some information in this document could be useful for scenarios for other products.
It is recommended that the information in this document also be used for ambient temperatures between +40°C and +60 °C, for design and use of Ex Equipment and Ex Components.
Additional guidance on adverse environment conditions for the selection and installation of equipment is provided in IEC 60079-14:2024 and additional guidance for the inspection and maintenance of equipment is provided in IEC 60079-17:2023.
This document is intended to be used in conjunction with the IEC 60079 series and the ISO/IEC 80079 series.
NOTE For detailed classification of climate conditions refer to IEC 60721 series (IEC 60721 (all parts) [9]) and IEC 60068-1.
