Scope

This clause of Part 1 is replaced by the following.

This part of IEC 60335 deals with the safety of neckbands, the rated voltage of which is not more than 42 V DC, that are used to contain agricultural animals within, or exclude such animals from, a particular area without the use of an electric animal fence.

A neckband is an appliance worn by an animal that creates boundaries without an electric fence through a combination of positioning technology and deterrent stimuli. The neckband may communicate with a control unit, base station, private network, other neckbands, mobile network, satellite network, or other devices and is configured by a control unit. The base station and control unit are not within the scope of this standard.

The base station and control unit may be subject to other standards as appropriate.

This standard also addresses hazards to the animal arising from the neckband, including deterrent stimuli, thermal, and mechanical hazards from normal use and foreseeable misuse.

This standard does not apply to:

– electric fence energizers (IEC 60335-2-76);

– base stations or control units;

– companion animals such as cats and dogs.

An example of different configurations of virtual fences is given in Figure 101.

Examples of the different configurations of neckbands are given in Figure B.1.

Attention is drawn to the fact that in many countries, additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour, the national water supply authorities and similar authorities.
