Scope

This British Standard gives recommendations for risk assessment and risk reduction for power operated pedestrian doorsets conforming to BS EN 16005:2023+A1:2024; power operated pedestrian entrance control equipment conforming to BS EN 17352; and manually operated revolving doorsets and turnstiles, with a view to safeguarding users against the risk of injury and accidents. It gives recommendations on the process of undertaking hazard analysis and risk assessments, and provides technical advice.

It is intended to be used by manufacturers, installers, occupiers, property owners, duty holders and responsible persons. It is also intended to be used by specifiers of the application into which the doorset is to be installed.

It does not cover the manufacture of the following: power operated pedestrian doorsets, which are covered in BS EN 16005:2023+A1:2024; power operated pedestrian entrance control equipment, which is covered in BS EN 17352; or manually operated revolving doorsets or turnstiles. Train platform trackside doors are also not covered in this standard.

NOTE 1Performance requirements and test methods for power operated pedestrian doorsets other than swing type are given in BS EN 16361. Performance requirements and test methods for external swing doors are given in BS EN 14351-1.

NOTE 2For special security systems that are designed to prevent unauthorized access (e.g. lockdown), which may conflict with safety recommendations, specialist advice can be sought from the manufacturer.

NOTE 3 Whenever the term “door system” is used in this document, it is deemed to cover the following types of doorsets:

        power operated pedestrian doorsets;

        power operated entrance control equipment;

        manually operated revolving doorsets; and
