Scope

This document specifies a test method for determining the dispersion stability of colloidal ceramic slurrythat small size of powders are dispersed into a liquid continuous phase by reducing their agglomeration, sedimentation or flocs. Homogeneous dispersibility and dispersion stability are core characteristics that ensures cost effective, uniform and consistent quality coating products for electrochromic/ion storage or heat-resistant or anti-abrasive applications, nanofluids for heat transfer systems, and ceramic pastes for additive manufacturing such as 3D printing. This test method utilizes light scattering effect to observe the changes in the dispersion state of colloidal nanoparticles such as transmittance and back scattering over a certain period of time. This method is not intended for systems exhibiting severe sedimentation, phase separation, or non-dispersible agglomeration under the test conditions. Such systems can be evaluated for comparative purposes only, provided that the limitations are clearly stated.
