Scope

This part of IEC 62282 specifies test methods of the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) module performance.

This document applies to PEMFC modules that use gaseous hydrogen as fuel, air as an oxidant, and a proton exchange membrane as the electrolyte.

This document does not cover the storage and delivery of fuel and oxidant to the PEMFC module.

This document covers only up to the DC output of the PEMFC module.

Figure 1 – Fuel cell power system components

This document does not apply to peripheral devices in Figure 1.

To further clarify the scope of the PEMFC module as defined in this document, it is defined as an assembly comprising one or more PEMFC stacks, along with the following necessary or optional components: (1) an enclosure for the PEMFC module (optional); (2) electrical interfaces for the module's power output;(3) internal piping and fittings within the enclosure for connecting the fuel, oxidant, and coolant to the PEMFC stack(s); (4) external input/output interfaces on the enclosure for fuel, oxidant, and coolant; (5) exhaust gas discharge piping and interface (optional); (6) purge piping and interface for the module enclosure (optional); (7) cell voltage monitoring (optional); (8) power supply interfaces for internal electrical auxiliaries (optional).

This document is not intended to limit or inhibit technological advancement. An appliance employing materials or having forms of construction differing from those detailed in the requirements of this document can be examined and tested according to the purpose of these requirements and, if found to be substantially equivalent, can be considered to comply with this document.
