Scope

This document establishes the general requirements regarding the safety requirements for cableway installations designed to carry persons. Additional safety requirements for bi-cable ropeways without carrier truck brakes are defined in EN 12929-2.

General technical features, principles for planning and the general safety requirements are established in this part of EN 12929.

Operation and maintenance details, calculations and detailed requirements for the design of components are not established in this part of EN 12929.

This part of EN 12929 defines requirements for the prevention of accidents and protection of workers, without prejudice to the application of national regulations.

National regulations of a construction or regulatory character or which serve to protect special groups of persons, remain unaffected.

Not all special groups of people (e.g. persons with limited mobility) will always be able to be carried on all types of cableway installations. However, it is the aim to enable carrying by cableway installation for as large a group of people as possible.

This standard does not apply to cableway installations for the carriage of goods or to lifts.
