This part of IEC 60118 describes methods for the measurement of the electroacoustical performance characteristics of air conduction hearing aids. Measurements of hearing aids with non-acoustic inputs, such as wireless, inductive, or electrical inputs are also covered. Mechanical and environmental tests are outside the scope of this standard.
This document is applicable to conformance testing of the characteristics of hearing aids for production, supply, and delivery quality assurance purposes and specification of the nominal characteristics of hearing aids for data sheets. It is also applicable to the measurement and specification of the electroacoustical performance characteristics of hearing aids for type testing, including measurement validation and homologation.
Performance characteristics of hearings aids obtained by the methods specified in this document represent only the performance under the specific conditions of the measurement and not the performance under actual conditions of use.
Informative annexes describe differences in acoustical calibration methods, the microphone location effect, additional measurements to characterize hearing aid performance, a comparison of the 0,4 cm3 coupler, the 2 cm3 coupler, and the occluded ear simulator, additional information about measurement uncertainty, recommended acceptance criteria for incoming inspection, and examples of conformance assessment.
