Scope

This document establishes methods for validating SAR measurement systems that conform to IEC/IEEE 62209-1528 and IEC/IEEE 62209-3, regardless of the technology involved. These methods apply a generic approach to cover technology neutral measurement implementations. The validation method shall be comprehensive and measurement-system agnostic, verifying conformity with system specifications for any exposure conditions.

These protocols and procedures apply to measurement systems used to measure the absolute psSAR generated by different types of wireless devices that are used next to the ear, in front of the face, hand-held, mounted on the body, or embedded in garments. This document applies to systems that measure the psSAR of devices that are intended to operate within 200 mm of the head or body, for single and multi-band operations using single or multiple antennas operating at the same or different frequency band, even simultaneously.

The reference for the absolute value of the psSAR is determined independently from the measurement systems (i.e. via computational simulations). The document establishes acceptance criteria to ensure that measurement systems are consistently accurate and repeatable within expected uncertainty.

The applicable frequency range is from 4 MHz to 10 GHz.
