This document describes specific requirements for pressure transmitters used in instrumentation systems important to safety in nuclear power plants (PWR, BWR, FBR, etc.). The requirements for pressure transmitters include design, materials, manufacturing, qualification, testing, calibration, inspection and documentation.
In nuclear applications, pressure transmitters are generally used for measuring process variables (pressure, flow, differential pressure and level) continuously. The conditions imposed by reactor use are often different from those which occur in non-nuclear applications. Generally, pressure transmitters used for safety applications in NPPs can be categorized into integrated transmitters and separated transmitters. For applications in non-nuclear areas of a NPP, IEC standards used for industrial products apply.
This document covers pressure transmitters, the boundaries are:
Sealed systems (remote seals are considered as components of transmitters.).
This standard does not cover the instrumentation systems using pressure transmitters as components (such as flowmeter, level measurement) or other components connecting to transmitters (such as sensing lines, valves).
