This document considers the functional design criteria for a Safety Parameter Display System (SPDS) which provides information in a concise and intuitive manner to aid staff in the control rooms and other points where the safety of the reactor needs to be focused on, particularly under AOO and accident conditions. SPDS is used to monitor the status of three fundamental safety functions for nuclear power plants (NPP): (a) control of reactivity; (b) cooling of radioactive material; (c) confinement of radioactive material.
The SPDS consists of instruments, displays, hardware and computer software forming a stand-alone system or integrated into the control room information system.
This document is applicable to the conceptual design as well as upgrade of SPDS in NPPs initiated after the publication of this document. This standard is also applicable to both analog and digital SPDS that have been built and supplements the requirements for SPDS using digital technology on the basis of the first edition.
