Scope

The applicability criteria (7.11.3) and procedure in 7.11.4 apply for each operating mode at frequencies above 1 GHz of DUTs that meet all of the following characteristics:

a)      The operating mode supports voice calls when used next to the ear while audio is routed to the earpiece.

b)      The transmitting antenna is located on the bottom half of the DUT.

c)      The maximum time-averaged output power during an earpiece voice call is higher than the maximum time-averaged output power in body-worn usage.

NOTE The available body of evidence upon which standardised requirements are developed is constantly being reviewed. The preceding criteria are subject to change as additional data become available (e.g. testing on all frequency bands).

These characteristics together define the subset of DUTs for which the head SAR or body SAR test data possibly do not support compliance with extremity SAR limit when used at the hand and for which hand SAR testing can be required.

The specific national (e.g. regulatory) requirements shall be considered when determining testing requirements and exemptions for different frequency ranges.
