This part of the 81346 International Standard, published jointly by IEC and ISO, provides rules and guidelines for the classification and designation of properties.
This document defines classes of properties, their definition and their codes. The defined classes and codes provided are intended to be used as means of orientation in and reusability of system design by association of relevant metadata.
Based on these principles, rules and guidelines are given for the formulation of unambiguous reference designations for properties associated with any object.
The reference designation identifies properties for the purpose of assigning, modifying and retrieving property information associated with an object.
The principles are general and are applicable to all technical areas (for example mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction engineering, chemical engineering). They can be used for systems based on different technologies or for systems combining several technologies.
This document is applicable for properties used in the life cycle of any system.
This document is also a horizontal publication intended for use by technical committees in preparation of publications related to classification and designation of properties in accordance with the principles laid down in IEC Guide 108.
