Standards Development
This document specifies terminology, classification, requirements and test methods for portable dental units to be used in non-permanent healthcare environments. This document also specifies requirements for information to be supplied by the manufacturer on the performance, operation and maintenance of portable dental units designed, constructed and to be transported for use in non-permanent healthcare environments.
This document does not apply to stationary dental units or mobile dental units that are intended to be used in healthcare environment or to portable dental units not designed to be disassembled, folded or packed for human transport between non-permanent healthcare environments, such as a controller of tabletop device, portable X-ray equipment and portable laser equipment. Also, requirements for stationary dental units that may be installed in either mobile dental or medical facility (e.g., vehicular or containerized mobile dental clinic) , or both are not considered in this document.
This document applies to portable dental units, regardless of whether self-contained or that use external utilities.
