This PAS provides recommendations on the safety of lithium-ion batteries for use in all types of personal light electric vehicles (PLEVs), including fully manufactured PLEVs, modified PLEVs and converted PLEVs, in addition to battery systems supplied separately.
The PAS covers recommendations on safe product selection and installation, taking account of the need for product compatibility, including when products are being repaired, or upgraded.
The PAS does not cover:
a) battery recycling or transportation;
b) batteries in voltage class B (>60 V DC);
c) batteries for type approved vehicles, e.g. L and M category vehicles[5]);
d) batteries for wheeled medical devices, e.g. wheelchairs;
e) batteries for non-road mobile machinery; and
f) regulatory requirements not related to the safety of the battery system.
This PAS is of use to manufacturers, importers, distributors, repairers and retailers (including converters who modify/install kits with batteries).
This PAS might be of interest to regulators, enforcement authorities, users, transport operators, policy makers/legislators, first responders, international partners, standards makers, test houses and landlords/insurance companies.
