Scope

This document provides guidelines for stakeholders on how to combine multiple barcodes of related trade documents into one envelope barcode, and it also provides guidelines on how to combine trade documents barcodes using barcode data repository, which is technology-neutral to handle various barcodes. The trade documents can be paper-based, electronic or mixed.

This document is applicable to logistical, commercial, and regulatory documents in international trade and travel, as well as the scenarios where the trade documents are used or could potentially use barcodes, such as carrying, presenting, merging or detaching, encoding or decoding multiple related trade documents barcodes.

This document does not address the specific business information and the business operations of trade documents, the implementation of barcode data repository, and the printing format or print quality of trade documents barcodes.
