BS EN IEC 60204-1 ED7 BS EN 60204-1 ED7 Safety of machinery - Electrical equipment of machines. Part 1: General requirements

Scope

This document applies to electrical, electronic and programmable electronic equipment (3.1.23) and systems to machines (3.1.45) not portable by hand while working, including a group of machines (3.1.45) working together in a coordinated manner.NOTE 1 In this document, the term “electrical” includes electrical, electronic and programmable electronic matters (i.e. “electrical equipment (3.1.21) ” means electrical, electronic and programmable electronic equipment (3.1.23)).This document is an application standard and is not intended to limit or inhibit technological advancement. The equipment covered by this document commences at the point of connection of the supply to the electrical equipment (3.1.21) of the machine (3.1.45) (see 5.1).NOTE 2 Information for the electrical supply installation is given in the IEC 60364 (all parts) [11].This document is applicable to the electrical equipment (3.1.21) or parts of the electrical equipment (3.1.21) that operate with nominal supply voltages not exceeding 1 000 V for alternating current (AC) and not exceeding 1 500 V for direct current (DC), and with nominal supply frequencies not exceeding 200 Hz.NOTE 3 Information on electrical equipment (3.1.21) or parts of the electrical equipment (3.1.21) that operate with higher nominal supply voltages can be found inIEC 60204-11 [6].This document does not cover all the requirements (for example guarding, interlocking, or control) that are needed or required by other standards or regulations in order to protect persons from hazards other than electrical hazards. Each type of machine (3.1.45) has unique requirements to be accommodated to provide adequate safety.NOTE 4 In the context of this document, the term “person” refers to any individual and includes those persons who are assigned and instructed person (3.1.40) by the user (3.1.74) or his agent(s) in the use and care of the machine (3.1.45) in question. This document specifically includes, but is not limited to, the electrical equipment (3.1.21) of machinery (3.1.45).NOTE 5 Annex C lists examples of machines (3.1.45) whose electrical equipment (3.1.21) can be covered by this document. This document does not specify additional and special requirements that can apply to the electrical equipment (3.1.21) of machines (3.1.45) that, for example:–        are intended for use in open air (i.e. outside buildings or other protective structures);–        are intended for use in or for machinery (3.1.45) containing conducting locations with restricted movement (see IEC 60364-7-706 [12]);–        use, process, or produce potentially explosive material (for example paint or sawdust);–        are intended for use in potentially explosive and/or flammable atmospheres;–        have special risks (3.1.61) when producing or using certain materials;–        are intended for use in mines;–        are exposed to seismic;–        are intended for use in laboratories (see IEC 61010 Series [13]);–        use electrical energy directly as a working tool.
