Scope

This document specifies the brain-computer interface (BCI) reference architecture (RA). The BCI RA defines the characteristics of BCI systems, provides a common language of BCI for the various stakeholders and addresses the concerns of various stakeholders. The BCI RA also provides guidance to system architects for building efficient design of BCI systems, typical implementation categories of BCI systems and effects of using BCI technology in developing applications. This document also provides technical reference for architects, service providers, regulators and the public to understand the BCI architecture, functions of its various layers and the technology backbone running the BCI systems.
