Scope

This British Standard gives recommendations for undertaking life-cycle costing (LCC) of constructed assets, including buildings and other construction and infrastructure assets.

The recommendations are relevant to LCC of construction projects and during the in-use phase of the life cycle of the constructed asset, including acquisition, construction, renewal, operation and occupancy, maintenance and end-of-life (ACROME) costs.

This British Standard also gives recommendations on:

a)    comparing alterative design, operation or maintenance options or policies;

b)    predicting and optimizing life-cycle expenditure and timing;

c)     setting budgets and prioritization of LCC work plans, including calculating and reporting at different stages throughout the life cycle; and

d)    acquisition costs relating to the feasibility studies and similar pre-construction costs.

This British Standard does not cover:

1)    land costs, externalities and incomes, which form part of whole-life costing (WLC); and

2)    complete computerized maintenance management systems and building information modelling (BIM).

When reviewing the figures, commenters are advised to review the attached supporting PDF file.
