Scope

This document describes methods for calibrating the optical components and flowrates of a BFPC, which is used to count microbiological (or autofluorescent) particles suspended in a known volume of air. Routine calibration of a BFPC focuses on maintaining the long-term technical integrity of optical measurements, spanning from the initial product development through the instruments's expected lifetime. The measurement principle of a BFPC is single particle laser-induced fluorescence (SP-LIF). Depending on the BFPC model, single-particle light scattering (SP-LS) measurements may also be performed. The particle size range measured by a BFPC typically span from 0,3 μm to 100 μm in diameter.

—     Flow rate (s)

—     False counts

—     Counting efficiency of BFPC

—     False positive rates

—     Counting efficiency of SP-LS system (if applicable)
