Scope

This document specifies the minimum operational and performance requirements, methods of testing and required test results conforming to performance standards adopted by IMO in Resolution MSC.xxx(111) A.xx.This document also specifies requirements and test methods for shipborne VDES mobile stations that transmit on AIS, ASM and VDE channels as defined by ITU-R M.1371 and ITU-R M.2092.Equipment conforming to this document is suitable to be installed onboard ships that are engaged in international voyages and contains AIS Class-A functionality as described in IEC 61993-2 and resolution MSC.570(109). In addition, this document provides means for improving integrity of AIS by means of authentication of AIS messages.Equipment compliant with this document can connect to an external gateway using the standardised Presentation Interface to provide additional services.NOTE All text of this document whose wording is identical to that in the IMO Resolution is indicated in parentheses, for instance (MSC.xxx(111) Axx).
