This document applies to air-to-air air conditioners and heat pumps.
This document deals with test methods, test conditions, required measurement and calculation methods for determining capacity ratings and seasonal performance factors for heating and cooling including native control evaluation while minimizing the discrepancy between rating seasonal efficiency and average field performance.
This document is limited to:
— residential, commercial and industrial air conditioners and heat pumps for human comfort;
— which are factory-made, electrically driven, packaged and single split systems incorporating single or multiple refrigerant-circuits which utilize mechanical compression and one or more compressors regardless of the number of compressor steps; and
— which are controlled on return air temperature.
This document is not applicable to the rating and testing of the following:
a) water-cooled or water source equipment;
b) multi-split systems;
c) mobile (single-duct or windowless) units having a condenser exhaust duct;
d) individual assemblies not constituting a complete refrigeration system;
e) equipment using the absorption and adsorption refrigeration cycle;
f) industrial air conditioners and heat pumps other than human comfort;
g) air conditions for closed control applications like server rooms, electricity transformer points, control rooms;
h) systems (products) controlled by external thermostats.
